Mercy Kurian
Program:
2 nd Chance, June 2011, Bangalore
Interestingly, I was at lunch with friends in a quiet tucked away restaurant when my friend got a call from Bigsna. Having, at an earlier point mentioned Fleximoms to me, she gave me the phone and asked me to talk to her…. And thus began my interaction with Fleximoms.
I had worked in a regular job (if you can call working in an advertising agency regular?!!) for a while before my daughter was born, starting out as a visualizer at Speer Communications and culminating as creative supervisor at Contract. Following the birth of my two daughters, I took a break for a couple of years and then resumed working off and on, on a free lance basis. During this period I also got involved with creating an advertising design module for third year students at Mt. Carmel College which I have now been conducting for the past eight years. More recently I have designed a module in print design and history of art.
Despite all this, there was a lack of self-confidence, having been out of the corporate world for so long.
And that is where Fleximoms helped me a lot. Through a two day session that got us thinking and through exercises and stimulating activities they were able to put my mind on the right track. Having them follow up on what my next steps were, made sure that I wasn't going to slacken and has set the pace for me to move ahead.
Thank you.
Anu Singh Choudhary
Program:
Career Advisory Intensive, August 2011, Delhi
Anu holds a post-graduate degree in Hindi Literature with a specialization in mass communication and print journalism. An overachiever as a student, she won several accolades in creative writing and is a trained film-maker. In a career spanning 10 years, that she claims to have enjoyed immensely, Anu has also worked on two independent films in pre-production, scripting, research, planning and post- production.
The mother of 5-year old twins, Anu opted to take the Fleximoms Career Advisory to prepare for her return to work, after her children were independent enough to be weaned off. Her take away from the Advisory - the need to up-skill herself, and the courage to do what she believed in. Anu now works as a PR and Media Consultant and has also recently set up her own communications consultancy. She is also writing scripts for TV and films, and her stories have been published in all the leading Hindi literary magazines. She keeps coming back to Fleximoms for motivation and conversations that reinstate her faith in what she is doing.
